Overall this shell doesn't do much but makes my JBL Flip 4 less slippery and a bit thicker which is nice when installed in my golf cart. A leather speaker is less likely to slip out of the straps. I suppose the leather could offer some protection if I dropped it, but not much. The leather makes it easier to grip, so there is less risk of falling. I love how it was designed to give you access to speaker controls. And the speaker fits in the holdall pretty snugly with that leather.
