Review on πŸ”Œ WindyNation 8 AWG 8 Gauge 1 Pair 30ft Black + 30ft Red Solar Panel Extension Cable - Premium Solar Connectors (Available in Multiple Lengths) by Adam Browning

Nice performance boost

I used a standard sensor to connect my two 100 watt panels to a WindyNation P30L charge controller. I saw just 4.x amps from one panel down to a surprisingly low 5.3 amps when I reconnected the second panel. I figured anything that might help would be fine. While I thought I would see some improvement with the 8 gauge, the next equally sunny day I was pleasantly surprised (actually shocked) when the charge controller input read 8.4 amps. be happier. Although they come with MC4 connectors on both ends, I cut one end off to plug into the P30L's input jacks. I thought I only give 4 stars? Because the wires are hard! The insulation is hard plastic but strong, and the strands are very coarse rather than fine-stranded copper. While going to 8ga was an improvement, more wires at lower voltage (12V) is even /more/ current potential (although I know a small percentage) than just going to a bigger wire. That disappoints me. If the Windy Nation "kit" came with MC4 connectors that fit 8 ga (they only fit 10 ga), I would use the very thin 8 ga cable I bought for it (I couldn't find a 8 ga MC4 that I could buy separately). Otherwise very satisfied with the product. Little did I know that moving up the scale I would achieve this kind of efficiency in just 20 feet. I've always had too much wiring for 12v systems in boats and RVs, but I've never had or been able to compare A to B. (I used 2/0 for the 5" wires that feed my 1200 watt sine wave inverter, which is also oversized and its crimped copper terminals are waterproof. All in the name of efficiency and durability. Sometimes overkill is just that what you need.) Highly recommended.
