First, heed the warnings on the packaging and don't cut the tape with a sharp edge! The side panels are located just below the opening cover (see photo). The table was well packaged and had all the parts needed for a quick assembly including a screwdriver, allen key and extra screws. The panels are lightweight and most likely laminated MDF panels. I wouldn't sit on this table, but it's definitely sturdy enough for a vase or lamp. Note that on smaller panels, the metal screws go straight into the wood. The large plates have plastic/metal contact to hold the screws. Basically I am very satisfied with the table. The C-shape is comfortable for working on a sofa to rest your laptop on, while the black marble finish looks luxurious from afar. I also love the little design details on the small shelf cutout where there is a small ledge on the long edge to keep things from falling off the shelf. We'll see how this table holds up over time, but it definitely has a place in my living room now!
