I was afraid that this wallet would be too thick or that the cards would slip out. No mistake! Under the flap are 10 vertical card slots. The fabric is not smooth, but rather structured so that the cards don't just slide out at the top. If you really want to be safe you can slip your cards in the zipped area or under the cards in the patch pockets under each side of the 5 card holder pockets. The outer fabric feels durable so I'm not worried about the buttons falling out or anything (this happened with my old other wallet).
