Once upon a time there was an umbrella stick the size of a Totes golf club. I liked the cover offered plus the automatic opening/closing; I wanted something similar. I was surprised to find folding golf umbrellas. I dared to do it. At the time of writing this article, I've had it for over a year. I carry this umbrella in my everyday backpack. Slips into a side pocket without being too flashy. Lots of coverage when opening. One-hand operation is very convenient when getting on and off trains, buses or buildings. However, I have to be careful here in strong winds. This umbrella turned me over several times. Each time this happened I found part of it torn off the rib at the crease. There the canopy is fixed with the help of the main thread. The thread just snaps from the stress of opening. I had to repair two breakdowns. The third one still exists because I don't have any leftover thread to tie a knot. (I think it was a previous crack, so maybe that's why the thread is gone entirely.) If I could without breaking the dome's integrity (i.e. making holes in it to let water in), I would reinforce/replace the threads with something more permanent, for example a pair of fishing line loops or Kevlar thread. Considering the cost, I was expecting the materials to be more resilient. But even with this problem I find this umbrella quite useful. I just have to be careful when I roll it up for storage. Everything else works perfectly. On the other hand (no pun intended) I will consider the Titan series umbrellas if I need to replace this one in the future.
