After reading over 600 reviews after a particularly bad night with severe hip pain, I ordered a 1 1/2" topper. I was a little apprehensive after reading so many negative reviews about the smell, but thought I couldn't handle it so I placed my order. When it arrived 2 days later I opened the box by peeling off the tape. I unfolded it. It was carefully wrapped in plastic and rolled up, and I was honestly expecting the smell people were mentioning all along.And I was pleasantly surprised by absolutely NO SMELL.The foam puffed up right away so I was tempted to put it on the bed straight away but I waited 24 hours. And I can hardly describe what it was like to get a good night's sleep! I'm dealing with arthritis pain in my hip and hip bursitis on top of that. I've tried everything :e in pillows between my legs, pain cream, ice packs, etc. I was only able to fall asleep for about an hour before waking up from the pain. My bed is about 13 years old and has a good quality pillow and it's time for a new bed but I can't afford it now. I could hardly afford to buy this styrofoam lid for only $20. But man, it's a sweet relief! I placed my mattress topper on top of the foam and everything fitted perfectly. My deep pocket sheets fit with no problem. And again I emphasize, no smell. I waited until I slept 5 nights on it to write this review and I'm still sleeping great with much improved pain relief.
