The thing is really great! We used to have one of those flatter rubbers you find everywhere, they're like a matrix of convoluted rubber whorls (the ones that trap dirt in a whirlwind that never releases it and works too well that makes you wonder what bacteria and the like too linger as it is IMPOSSIBLE to clean up). This option is MUCH better. We sweep the floor around the tray a lot less than before and it seems to pick up more dirt without accumulating too quickly, so it's effective for a while before you have to throw it away. What brings me to the one-star docking, which they don't tell you, is that you pretty much have to stick your hand in the stream of outgoing debris to throw it back into the crate. Unless there's a way to reset it that I don't know about. It just comes out a lot when you lean it towards the box anyway. I suspect I might be doing it wrong. Not that big of a deal, but still a bit annoying. As another user said, you can step on it barefoot (it's also very smooth) and won't get dirty. This is good if your setup requires you to bend down to clear the box. Now I can get closer and the debris won't stick to my foot. My only other issue with this is that now that there's something on the floor (which happens to be less than half what it was before), you can't just sweep it onto the carpet as it's too thick. But like I said, you sweep a lot less than that, so it's actually not that bad. Overall I love this rug and our cat does too! It was definitely an improvement over the mess of wasted debris and carpet of bacteria we had before!
