No padding to protect laptop from falling Straps

I bought this backpack for work based on good reviews and the versatility of the laptop storage. For the first week I used it, it had my laptop, tablet, and lunch (not a heavy load - no books or paper) and the shoulder strap slipped out of the clip. I was carrying coffee in my hands and was about to walk from the car to the elevator at work when I heard the sound of a long flash as the strap slipped from the clip and my backpack fell hard onto the sidewalk. I was shocked because this has never happened to me in my whole life, even under a very heavy load of books etc. I pulled my laptop out the back when I got my office and was very annoyed that the corner was broken off. I was like no way as the bottom of the laptop case or the bottom of the bag is certainly padded and was shocked that there was no padded protection. You can feel the ground and it's just a thin liner material!?! Now I'm going to slide the gasket in myself, but it's a huge disappointment to expect someone to discover the hard way that there's no protection on the underside. I plan to return it and pay the money for something that was really designed to take care of vehicle electronics. Otherwise the specs are good and it looks like a great backpack. My tablet was well weathered in the fall, but that's because the tablet had a rubber case. There are no laptops.
