The first night I used it, I had it where my old lamp was (almost next to my bed). woke up in the middle of the night burning all over and felt like throwing up (with the smell of salt in the air). As soon as I left the room I felt better. I already had the lamp on the lowest setting, but the next night I moved the lamp to the other end of my bedside table and have had no problems since. The dimmer is good but I wish it was even lower because it's still pretty bright on the lowest settings. The lightbulb can go out if the chord is moved too far (I assume that's what happened to me). The exterior is very clean and modern, but not in a way that makes it seem inorganic. The whole reason I bought this was because I had to use coasters under other salt lamps because they got so hot, but the legs on this one lift them off the table so I'm not worried.
