Expensive but worth it

I had never tried freeze dried dog food so I was curious to try it. It means adding half a glass of warm water to a glass of food. There seemed to be too much water. It is never fully absorbed in the diet. there is a puddle, although the food is soaked. I'm not sure this should end at the consistency of canned food let alone soft kibble in chunks. It is better to level, but still add a little less than half a glass of water. I started by taking a one-cup measuring cup and filling it with food, then pouring in half a glass of water. After he's been sitting for about 10-15 minutes, I dump him onto a plate (that's how I usually feed him wet or specialty food). There was always a puddle of water on the surface of the plate and all the food just lay in the middle of the plate. If I mash it up and mix it with the rest of the water, it gets too soft and runny. Scooping out about just under a quarter glass of water seems to give it a nice consistency. Anyway, the dog liked it. He licked off the excess water before I started reducing it. I thought it was pretty rude but hey he liked it so who am I to judge. It is very expensive to give as the only food for a large dog like me. For a 25 pound dog, 2 3/4 cups per day is recommended. For larger dogs, add 1/2 cup per 5 pounds over 25 pounds. So for us, that's 8 3/4 cups a day. This bag is small. So I couldn't afford to make a daily meal for him, but I would be willing to use more than special treats or toppers. It might be more economical if you have a smaller dog, but my 85 lb dog would eat about a bag a day if that was his only meal. It's a good healthy food and he seems to really like it so we buy it and rotate it a few times a week as a supplement or special food. He likes lamb in general so I think he really likes this one. I buy him smaller lamb chops from the butcher counter at the grocery store and he loves them.
