I have a Dell Studio 1747, my previous power supply failed and I thought I'd spend a little more for the peace of mind that a 'new' branded adapter would provide. A month later, the "new" adapter started making piercing crackling noises, like there was a spark inside (that was the case with my old one when it started to die). I contacted Revain and was told I didn't have time to return but would need Dell coverage as it was 'new'. I contacted Dell and they told me it was 7 years old based on the number on the PSU so they couldn't help me as "a 1 year warranty expired 6 years ago". So I spent $31 on a seven year old broken adapter. They're new from old stock at best, but from what the Dell rep told me, it looks like they've been used. I should have just bought a compatible universal charger.
