New to the camcorder life but aspiring to get serious, I was looking for an entry-level camcorder to learn and practice the technique with , before I ventured the long haul, dear workhorse. After several hours of searching, I found it easy to sell the Play Touch because it was the only device in its class with an external microphone port. I hate putting up with clips that have horrible sound quality so much and I don't want to force this on my audience. However, built-in mics with their echo chambers and wind tunnels do just that, so I can't understand why other manufacturers haven't figured it out. A standard tripod thread was also a big plus for me. Shaky frames is another easy-to-fix bug that's holding back some otherwise really interesting movies. After a few weeks of practice, here's my conclusion: (1) As long as the camera is used within its limitations, the camera performs surprisingly well despite being in the hundreds of dollars range. (Isn't that always the key to getting the most out of your camera, i.e. working within its limits?) Touch screens can be a wonderful thing and I find this screen a huge plus. Sure, the pleasing image quality degrades drastically in low light and you'll have to recharge more often than you'd like, but let's be honest, when you go for cheap seats you always have to give up some of your reels. (2) The Kodak Play Touch Zi10 works great for my purposes as stated above and I would highly recommend it for those of you looking to have fun without suffocating your wallet.
