This is my second set. I use them as stands for some pretty heavy vintage speakers. My only complaint is that for some reason this particular design (I also have the 2 shelf model) is designed so that the last screw on the lid is on top and there is nothing you can do to tighten it enough to almost flush to be. I trimmed most of them with a dremel and still nothing. I hit him with a rubber mallet. I put the 45 pound speakers on top of it. They don't go down the last 1/8 inch. The other set is screwed onto the "tree" from below so that the entire top is smooth. Thats much better. I don't know why they made it different and much more difficult.
