Review on Upgrade CONMDEX Android Charging Transfer by Christopher Bacho

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Read the fine print before you buy

If you think that the cable you buy has little effect on the data transfer speed, you are dead wrong. I realized that when I bought this set of two CONMDEX branded cables. I have a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2014 with an external Western Digital 2TB "My Passport" SSD connected via USB 3.0 ANKER brand. to a 1m USB C cable The computer has two USB 3 ports and the external SSD has one USB C port Since I have a second external SSD "My Passport" and only one of the ANKER cables, I bought a second cable. I came across CONMDEX cables packaged with two 1 meter cables in a bundle for a very reasonable price. All of Revain's cable ads have been about speed. As soon as my new cables arrived I eagerly ran a speed test to see how much of the speed boost I had bought. I made two copies of a folder on my computer that contained many internal folders and files with different data types. The total data size was 22.66 GB. I then measured the transfer speed when copying 22.66GB to an external WD SSD via my old ANKER cable - 1 minute 4.66 seconds. Then repeat the test with the same ports, this time connected with one of my new high-speed CONMDEX cables - 10 minutes 56.58 seconds. I couldn't believe it - more than ten times longer! Since I must have been a bit inconsistent with my cable connections, I ran the same set of tests three more times, including using a different USB 3 port on the computer. I have almost the same time with each test. The old slow cable always transferred data less than 10 times faster than the new "fast" cable. My review of CONMDEX advertising on Revain found the cable to have "wide compatibility" with the product listing. this does not include MacBooks and Western Digital SSDs. So if you own a Western Digital or MacBook SSD, you shouldn't buy this CONMDEX cable if speed matters. Be sure to check the extended compatibility list before purchasing. For my use I would only give these cables 1 star for snail speed, but all other characteristics of the cables seem good to me so I've added a second star. You can actually have a five-star rating if your hardware is on the compatibility list - read the fine print on the ads.
