Review on IP68 Waterproof Tailgate Backup Camera for Fords F150 (05-14), F250 (08-16), F350-F550 (08-16): Fog Resistant & 12V Source by Jay Lee

As the name suggests, I hooked this up to the TRAILER tail light circuit for my 2011-2016 F-350. Please note that connecting these to the taillight taillight circuit will cause the BCM to turn off the circuit due to a perceived overload. Yes, the BCM detects this and can prevent circuit overload. Using a "dumb" trailer backup light circuit will prevent this. I just disconnected the truck wiring harness from the rear trailer connector (you will need to remove the gray locking tab to depress the connector tab). Then locate the center wire (since the center pin of the standard 7-pin trailer connector is for reversing lights). I folded back the electric faucet at the end of the plug and cut it off a few inches from the plug. I used a shrink tube crimp and crimped one end of it, coiling up the loose 16g piece. Then I put everything back together and crimped this pigtail to my LED lights AND ALSO to turn on/start the backup camera on the trunk handle ($58 from Revain) that came with my $41 7" touchscreen radio, also from Revain. However, you will need a T30 torch to remove the tailgate cover and an 11mm head to loosen the two nuts on the tailgate handle. Use a small flat head with a long handle to pop the green snap clips and the old handle will come out easily. I also took the time to remove the internal locking mechanism and sprayed it with brake cleaner to blow off dust, dirt and grease. I uploaded it again and pasted it in again. The new handle comes with a useless gasket and the pig's tail is JUST long enough to fit a square hole (see photo). You need a hanger to fish right through it. It's easier to do all this crap at once (lights, camera and cheap 7 inch radio). The hardest part was removing the tailgate as the rubber bushing was frozen solid.
