The top strap was a little tight on my 6 year old's leg. Now they have stretched a bit, but for the first few weeks he had trouble putting them on without help. The velcro still barely closes, but everything else about them he likes so much that he doesn't seem to care. All in all, these are great shoes. He likes the way they look and says they are comfortable. They hold up well to abuse from an active young child and repeated machine washes. I just air dry them and they look and smell almost like new again. I would buy them again.
