I've read other reviews and tried to figure out if I should keep the original gum but couldn't find an answer to this question. I got over it in the end as that particular controller fell off in pieces anyway! I took someone's advice and flipped the new (pink) grip over, put it on and applied a little pressure! It slipped and fits perfectly! The whole process took maybe 10 seconds. I have chosen not to clean and replace the right stick as it is still in great condition.
