The small one is perfect for an 8 lb cat, otherwise larger.
I bought this primarily for my small cat (8lbs) in the small size. It fits and can rotate inward perfectly, but my 13lb crampons have a hard time rotating back. They fit when you put them in, or they actually work to unfold. If you want one for a bigger cat I suggest going up a size! That issue aside, the little cat loves it and when I can't find it, it's usually because it's curled up in this thing somewhere in the house.
