I'm an experienced drone pilot and have built at least a dozen serious quadcopters and hexacopters from scratch, but I was looking for a fun drone to pack in my suitcase and take with me on vacation Vacation photos with that certain extra. Syma is a well-known manufacturer of consumer quadcopters and this one was well made with a quality controller and surprisingly good battery life. Thanks to headless mode and the ability to stay near the chosen altitude and position with little to no user input, it reloads quickly and flies virtually effortlessly. It seems like a great platform for an integrated camera. The propeller is well protected and has not been damaged after being hit by bushes and a garden wall during shaking flights. The kit includes a set of interchangeable props. Many features, including headless mode, are often found on more "professional" models. The manual is a bit cryptic and requires careful reading to get the most out of this quad, but it's worth it. The camera and the Android app are tested in the second part of this test. Part II: Mobile Phone Software/FPV (First Person View) couldn't be easier. Download it, turn on Wi-Fi on your phone and login to the powered drone. Bingo, the camera works and all controls are on the phone now. The phone is attached to the phone for easy access. It works like a champ, the video stream is very high quality. I've spent thousands of dollars on complex hexacopters, gimbals, and cameras, but this copter is awesome, lots of fun, and very capable. My only comment is that I would have preferred to be able to use the controller in addition to the cellphone to control the plane and that a hood is needed to use the phone in bright sunlight. This is not unique to this bird. Update: I found that by connecting the controller to the drone and THEN connecting the app to the drone, you can use the handheld controller while using the phone as FPV and just keep the videos and photos. BIG! The quality is really very good! Exceeds all expectations for a drone of this size and price.
