Not safe for cats! I used this on a rather petite cat. It broke within a day or so, which is surprising given that the last one lasted several months. It scared her when it broke and she was reluctant to use another replacement brand. I will never buy this product again and have since found another hammock brand that is smaller but has much stronger hooks and loves it. I don't think the hooks of this brand are metal. This is a very cheap material, possibly coated. I used to buy this brand many times, but the latter breaks. There may have been a drop in quality recently, so I would advise the manufacturer to either charge more for better quality or give up. I have received a refund for both broken devices and encourage other people who have experienced a failure to do the same.
