Tip! They have NO zippers. The thick blue plastic "sticks" together only slightly, but with no sticky substance. It's more like static cling or just a plastic bag that you can buy a blanket in. IF there is fabric lined up in that blue plastic, or if the blue plastic pieces are particularly wrinkled, it will NOT seal properly and air will escape again. If you can avoid it, they work great! Although it seems like there is always some air coming back. Just sit on the "sealed" end and roll or slide it the other way. The air leaves the exit area with a "puff" and closes automatically. It's absolutely perfect for travel as you don't need any special tool to close it. If you are looking for a compression sack for long-term temporary storage, such as storing winter blankets, I recommend the zipped version. Quite simply because the sealed seam doesn't last as long and doesn't shrink as much as vacuum bags. But I've used them on week-long trips and loved how much easier it was to keep track of clean and dirty clothes with one clean and one dirty bag, and it really helped taking up less space. Just maybe not as drastic a change as with vacuum bags. I also bought them in all three sizes. Large enough for pillows and FLAT quilts or bedspreads, but NOT large fluffy comforters. A medium-sized pillow takes some effort to press in, but is better for clothes and towels. I think I can easily fit at least 5 t-shirts and 2 or 3 shorts/jogging pants in a medium size. The little one is big enough for, for example, a couple of washcloths or 2 or 3 t-shirts for me. ABOUT PHOTOS. These are two identical pillows of a standard size. (Cheapest available from Target.) Appears a few minutes after the compression bag is deflated. It fit, but it was difficult to insert the pad and keep all the fabric from getting into the blue plastic areas to keep the seal airtight. I also noticed that some air returned in 10 minutes or less, but it was still a great space saver compared to a bagless pillow. Average bag size shown.
