Ideally, the surface should be flat to prevent bubbles from forming and give you the best possible fit for the tape. However, my surface is like a tile with grout and I haven't had any problems. The item itself is very durable and surprisingly heavy. I doubted the duct tape could hold it up alone, let alone add heavy soap/shampoo bottles. The delivery is fast, the packaging is good, there is little waste. The instructions were easy, as was the installation. I think everyone can handle it.
