Review on Infinity Kappa 62IX - Powerful 6 1/2” Two-Way Car Audio Multielement Speaker for Enhanced Sound Experience by Julio Solano

Sounds worse than cheap factory speakers

Installation was easy as I used Crutchfield's recommended adapter plates and adapter harness so no wire cuts. I was disappointed with the sound after installation, very low bass and sound clarity compared to 25w 4ohm Ford OEM speakers. I left the factory tweeters plugged in because these Kippa 62ix sound very quiet without them. I tried swapping the wires to make sure the minus and plus are not mixed up, turned off the factory tweeters and changed the built in tweeters by +3dB/0dB. It made no difference, the built in tweeters don't even seem to work. I had high hopes as they were advertised as ultra high sensitivity 2.5 ohm speakers so you can plug them into a factory radio or aftermarket stereo. I reinstalled the factory speaker on the passenger door and left the Kippa 62ix on the driver's door just for sound comparison and the cheap factory speaker sounds a lot better. I could be wrong, but I understand that these 60x 2.5ohm high 96dB sensitivities should handle the factory head unit power better than OEM 4ohm speakers. At the very least, many reviewers said they just replaced the factory speakers on these with an existing head unit. I will return them if I don't find out if I did something wrong. I specifically wanted that 2.5 ohm low impedance / high sensitivity so I didn't have to install an external amplifier. I have a 2020 Ford Fusion with Sync 3 and 6 speakers (4 in the front doors with tweeters and 1 in each of the rear doors).

Pros
  • Coaxial speakers
Cons
  • Upgradeable
