The buckle is great, it can be removed from the belt with snaps, but they blend seamlessly with the design of the belt. The belt appears to be leather, and the buckle fastens through the slots with a rounded-ended pin. I don't know how well it will hold up over time because the buckle is heavy and the pin doesn't fit the hole that tight. I bought this for my boyfriend who hardly ever wears it as he usually wears belts at work and it's too much for him at work.
