Review on Onitsuka Tiger Mexico Oyster Unisex Shoes: Men's & Women's Loafers and Slip-Ons by Andrew Pickering

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My 20 year wait is over!

I bought Onitsuka Tiger sneakers about 20 years ago, although I didn't know the brand name at the time. They were so comfortable that a year later I went back to the store where I bought them, put them on and asked the seller if they still sell them. He said no, acted like I was an idiot even when I asked him to, and wasn't interested in helping me track her down. It took me 20 years, since there was no brand on either the outside or the sole, to get the idea to look for a label on the inside (I still wear them, by the way, although the skin has peeled off a bit, but they survived; of course I didn't wear sneakers very often until the times of Covid). The label, which was still legible, told me the brand and model number (unfortunately the latter is no longer offered or only the number has been changed) and the size. Therefore, I tried to find a style that comes closest to me visually, at least in the picture. The only pair in my size (7 1/2 - they come in half sizes!) was black, which is exactly what I would choose if given the choice. Ordered them and they fit just like the original, perfect. One difference: they don't have laces, a small detail I didn't notice. Or rather, since a lot of the other colors were laced, I explained that they didn't lace this pair up to make it look cleaner in the photo, otherwise they shouldn't bother. Guilty. But indeed, my dear. I'm at an age where the easier it is to put on shoes the better. I would never order slip-ons separately, but what a great idea! How long has it been there, forever, and I just didn't realize it? And they really stop. But why such an extremely low inventory? Now that I've found them, I want more, with or without laces!

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Makes me angry
