Pretty soft wood: Furniture
One of these broke, it started to crack so it was easy to fix with wood glue. It's a fairly soft wood, although the thinner profile is in the middle where bending stresses are highest. So why does it work well with my little 2x3 rug? I don't think it will survive multiple adjustments due to fatigue. I would also be careful not to overtighten them. Just go a little beyond the minimum required to keep the mat from slipping out and you don't risk damaging it.
