These rattles are definitely better than the teething rattles. The bee's blue "wings" are hard plastic (not for teething) but a light rattle. The giraffe is made of hard plastic (not for teething) and is not a large rattle with rings around its neck as it is best for a baby to grasp by the neck which dampens the rattle/rings. Elephant ears are made of softer plastic and are comfortable in baby's hand. It doesn't make any noise. The green rattle is a great rattle - it feels good in the hand and makes the right sound when shaken (not the cord). Butterfly wings are soft like those of an elephant. This is a decent tailor. Finally, the green and pink bell rattle is by far my daughter's favorite. It's hard plastic, but the bottom suits her mouth nicely for drooling (to the teeth). When shaken, this is the sound of a bell and is the loudest of all the rattles in the set.
