I gave 4 stars because it's not my fault for the lack of information about the container or my knowledge about henna. I wanted to try henna because I damage my hair with Boxed - Red every few weeks. Henna (real henna) is just GREAT for hair. I'm sooooo glad I did the "Strand Test" and not the whole head. I followed the directions to the T and my hair was bright orange! After a few days it darkened to a redder color. (What I've read online may be ok with henna) I learned some information about henna after doing my hair. You need to leave the mixture on for a few hours, I've read anywhere from 3 to 12 hours. In addition, when applying a shade of red, it can happen that it is initially orange and turns red after a few days. ALL HAIR ARE DIFFERENT so you cannot be sure of the results. This is why the strand test is so important to see how long you want your henna to last for the color you want, and whether you want to add coffee to the mix to deepen the reds, or add apple cider vinegar to the color to mask the grays . There are MANY recipes on the internet to get the desired shade/brightness of a color. Also, henna is VERY permanent, if you want to bleach or lighten your hair after using henna, you can't. The cuticle is sealed. I've read that you need to apply warm mineral oil to your hair for 25-30 minutes to remove the henna. Henna is a great conditioner and free from horrible chemicals. I also found out that REAL henna is ONLY red. The henna plant (AKA-lawsonia inermis) has only one dye molecule, and this molecule is red-orange in color. Any other color usually has other substances added to it, like indigo for black, chemicals, metal salts, or other plants that need to be added to henna to make a color other than red. These pre-mixed colors are the composite henna. If you buy a box of henna with a label that says it dyes hair blonde, brown, or black, there's something else in that box besides henna. Hair bleach, permanent hair color and perm solution - a devastating combination with composite (metal salts) henna dyes. This can result in green, purple, or completely dry hair. Sorry for talking so much, I just wish I knew more beforehand and I've never done anything like this. just thought it might help someone. I'm not AGAINST henna, I just wasn't very informed at first, I'm glad I wanted red so I could dye my hair regular color if I wanted to. I'm going to try another strand test now as I have some mixtures that I left in overnight and the paste looks quite different so I see there's a reason to leave it on for a while. Much luck!
