It works but doesn't

I bought this for my home office so I can add an extra monitor to my laptop. My monitor has a VGA connection and I work with two external hard drives. I thought it would be perfect for what I need because it has multiple USB ports, VGA and many other ports. The first day I used it, after about 20 minutes it made a clicking noise and my monitor went blank. I disconnected it from the laptop and reconnected it several times, after which the monitor turned on again. This happened dozens of times on the first day of use. It was very frustrating especially when you are working on a document or printing a report. Then I started paying attention to the clicks it was making and found that accessing files on one of the hard drives was causing the dock to crash. I unplugged one of the external hard drives from the docking station and it has been working great ever since. But that's not what he should do. I ordered a much more powerful docking station because I work exclusively with these two external hard drives and need my computer's mobility when I need to walk to the office and print documents or synchronize my computer with an update system. I don't want to remove hard drives. I mean that's the whole point of the dock. So I don't recommend this unless you need a docking station for another computer display. I was going to return it but instead I gave it to a friend who will only use it to mount a computer screen. Not a very good docking station if it requires a lot of features.
