The writing of this review is based on the purpose advertised. The strap is as good as I've ever seen from a simple through-the-hole latch type. The holder that holds the excess is slotted to keep it in place which is amazing. The material is comfortable. The sandy color quickly fades to black at the edges under heavy use. Only on the strip. I can't tell if it's dirt and grease that won't wash off, or if the color is actually fading, but it goes black fairly evenly at the corners of the material. The button layout is easy to learn and very useful now that I've used it for a while. There are 4 buttons, the sole purpose of which is backlighting. Editing any number you can either increase it up or down. The keys are difficult to press precisely. The rate of accidental clicks is the lowest of any watch I've had. The backlight is the worst thing about this watch. It's too bright. This has a sufficient effect on your eyes' adaptation to the dark. I've never had a clock backlight to use as a reading light and this is the lowest light level. Unless you really want to use your watch as a dim flashlight, the two higher levels of illumination are utterly useless. With so much attention to make it unobtrusive, the lack of a dim backlight is a mistake. That leads me to think that this backlight was designed and tested in a well-lit room. Luckily, because the buttons are hard to press, I can leave the backlight feature on and only use it when I'm ready. It has an adjustable display time of 1.2 or 3 seconds, and if it really matters, the backlight can be turned off. To be clear, the backlight is too bright for use in the dark when visibility, let alone your own vision, is important. Otherwise it will not affect you negatively. The negative display is really good. Text and numbers have a kind of soft reflective quality. It is enough that when the moon is not shining, you can read the clock without light by holding it correctly. The watch has dual time, but in fact nowhere in the manual does it state that the time selected is what the alarms are based on. . It would be nice to be able to choose which clock the alarm was synced to as that is the only button to toggle the double time which will change any active alarms to an unintended time. I use a dual timer all the time which makes it difficult to use alarms. Speaking of alarm clocks, there are three that are easy to set up. Unfortunately, there is no indicator for this outside of the alarm page. Which I think makes the silent feature even more convenient for a bad reason. There are two stopwatches that I've used a couple of times for both and it's nice to see the time on the stopwatch side and both stopwatches on the time side. I say the word "stopwatch" but they pause/resume and don't display lap times, so chronometer is a better word. There's a timer, but from what I've seen others, it's an oddly limited little thing compared to other features. Maximum 60 minutes. For some reason there are multiple preset times and the custom time option is the last choice. The preset time cannot be edited and is 7, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 60 minutes. You can only start one timer. All in all, this is the best digital watch I've ever owned. For being the best digital watch I've ever owned, it's also a lot more expensive. In my opinion, the impact on utility of how the alarm clocks interact with the dual time and backlight brightness combined with the price makes it two stars. For daily driver use on a watch, the only downside I think would be the limited timer. If so, this watch will give you a 5-star experience.
