These lids come in very handy for turning jelly jars into spice mix holders and other purposes. Although the lid came tightly closed, I have a trick to removing it and then putting it back on less tightly. I think a drop of olive oil on the lid will make removal easier, or a drop of silicone spray or a candle around the edges of the protrusion, so I'm not worried about that. I've read that some others have given up trying to remove the lid, so I wasn't surprised that it was tightly closed. I found the fork under my curled lip and picked it up with little effort. Tight-fitting lids do a good job of protecting the food you put in jars from moisture, but there's also something that makes removal easier. Appropriately sized holes for sprinkling ground spice blends or cinnamon and sugar. I also like arrowroot powder as a body powder better than cornstarch baby powder and pass it on as it doesn't come in a shaker container. These lids will also fit large Mason or Bell jars as long as they have a standard neck size. I have a wide neck so I won't use them for tall jars, but my jelly jars are the perfect size for the things I make and they don't age like many of them.
