I really like these pens and use them often

I use pigment ink pens a lot in my sketchbooks and illustrations and there are two brands that I use more Total. I started with Sakura Micron Pigma Ink pens and really liked them. My husband bought me this set and I am very happy with it. The ink on both pens is waterproof, very black and archival quality. In fact, both sets appear to be almost identical, making it difficult to decide which set of pens to use. Having used both brands for a long time, I have decided on Staedtler as my favorite. First, I should point out that when I compared the tip sizes of both brands, I found that they are not the same. For example, the Sakura .05 point is significantly larger than the Staedtler .05 point, which doesn't make sense, but I noticed that when comparing the two sets. This size difference is one of the reasons I like the Staedtlers more. The finer 0.05 point is more precise, and that precision is essential in some of my work. The Staedtler tips seem to hold up better to heavy use and I just like the feel of these pens better. Sakura has a smooth finish while Staedtler has a matte finish which I feel more comfortable holding onto for long periods of time. The downsides to buying a Staedtler are the price - they're more expensive and affordable. Sakura is easy to find almost anywhere art supplies are sold. If you don't use pigment ink sticks very often and don't need precise lines, Sakuras might be for you. But for the visual arts, I've voted Staedtler my favorite.

Pros
  • Durable polypropylene barrel and long metal tip
Cons
  • Out of fashion
