Cats face opposite directions

I like the look of the bookends, but I don't understand why the cats face opposite directions. One end faces outward from the wall while the other one faces the wall, with its tail facing outward. It seems that both cats should face outward, away from the wall.

Would have gave 5 stars, but they came with no padding between the set, so on was all scratched up.

The bookends are not customizable
