I was excited about the option of a privacy screen that didn't have any items to attach to the front of the laptop. In theory, this one should do the job; It closes my display the way it needs to be. But it doesn't work very well on my X1 Carbon for several reasons. First and foremost, my laptop lid and palm rest already have weak magnets that act as the lid sensor. If the screen isn't positioned so that part of its magnet extends beyond the frame, the lid sensor will be triggered and the hardware will turn off the display. There's no way to tweak this behavior in my laptop's BIOS, and I've been playing around with the screen constantly, trying to find a middle ground where it doesn't stick out too much and also doesn't make the hardware think it's the lid closed. Second, it's only magnetized at the top of the screen; nothing secures it to the bottom of the display. When the screen tilts forward (e.g. when I close the lid of my laptop or when I have it on my lap, lean back and raise my legs) it detaches from the bottom of the display very easily. If you use it, the picture will be blurry; When you close the lid of the laptop, it sometimes makes an uncomfortable crunch as it gets caught between the two halves of the laptop. In theory, this item is good and I want to like it, but the design is not fully functional.
