I have three chihuahuas who love beds but although they refuse to lie on carpets they are also quite picky about their beds. They scratch them to loosen the stain before they fall asleep and have destroyed three for the same reason. So I was (again) looking for another replacement. I had three main criteria: it should be plush (they don't like anything flat), it should be big enough for all three (they like to cuddle with each other) and since they tend to carry treats and eat off my beds, he had to have one have machine washable covers. I've had others that are "machine washable" only to find out that they expected me to send the whole thing to the washer (not easy with top loading and with most laundry mats that prohibit washing dog beds) or they forced me to taking it apart like a craft toy: foam inserts here, padding here, three zippers there. It's very chic. My dogs love to climb on this thing and even venture onto the linoleum (it's in the kitchen as part of their workspace) to step on. 2. The cover is the simplest I've come across and it has a 3/4 turn closure that makes it easy to put on and take off. No more stuffing big mounds into a small hole, pulling and fluffing up to fill in corners. No more adjusting the zipper and tongue when fully open. And the zipper itself is well made and goes over the teeth very easily.3. The filling isn't foam, it's something like shredded plastic. Still soft and VERY airy, but what I like about it is that it doesn't retain odors like foam or cotton. While the cover is being washed I spray on some Febreeze and take it outside for a few minutes and it's as good as new.4. The fluffy and airy bed keeps my dogs from scratching it. I'm not saying all dogs do this, but for some reason it works for me. A small gripe is that it's not as soft as the other beds. A kind of coarse fleece. And it shrinks a bit in the wash. However, I would definitely buy it again and plan to do so when this one wears out too much. I bought a medium brown by the way, and my three chihuahuas are 6lbs, 5lbs and 4lbs respectively. All three fit with plenty of room, although you'll usually see them stacked together in the middle.
