Review on RADEX RD1503 Dosimeter: Ensuring Accurate Radiation Detection by Richard Edwar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An excellent device for ordinary people, that is, non-professionals, with good returns.

Final Verdict (long version) - easy to use (due to large buttons and large screen); - fairly accurate (depending on the level of radiation); and the main limitations: - no data transmission - limited detection range (up to 9.99, which is enough for everyday tasks). I have other RADEX devices and I am familiar with a Geiger counter/radiation detector. I test them all and compare the results to uranium glass, a source of beta radiation, and to standard granite home kitchen countertops. All of these devices are calibrated with the isotope cesium-137, which is the most common by-product of a nuclear disaster. It's good. On the other hand, a sensor (in this case an SBM-20-1 Geiger-Müller tube) with other radiation sources such as uranium, strontium or radium will not be as accurate. Also, don't expect these devices to detect electromagnetic non-ionizing waves like microwaves, Wi-Fi, or a smartphone, as they are entirely different types or emissions (visible light, etc.). At the same time, this isn't a big deal and almost trivial to a layperson who isn't interested in isotopes or the physics of radiation, but just wants to know "hot or not". The good thing is that the higher the radiation level, the more accurate this device will receive, so that's good. Another good thing is that once switched on, no further configuration is required. Press ON button, wait 15 seconds, get the first reading. Wait another minute for the most accurate readings to appear. This is really good for 95% of people who are looking for a radiation detector "just in case" or just out of curiosity. Sensitivity is ok compared to several samples I tested it on, same goes for accuracy at different levels of radiation and reliability. in The Field. Just try not to get wet.
