Review on Resin Transparent UV Decoration for Scrapbooking & Stamping: Activated Adhesives for Stunning Projects by Karla Richter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

ENSURE your UV lamp is rated at 36W.

I really like this resin. I bought this to set up some straight hooks I had laying around; I'm quite a smart person, I hate crochet that doesn't have a handle, honestly this seemed like a good fit for my first resin project. Fair warning: this (the hook part) was definitely not a beginner's project. Mistakes have been made and many are regretted. I also jump deep head first on most things, don't be like me, make dried flower tags, bookmarks or whatever before intentionally cutting the silicone molds you paid for. Anyway, I went ahead and bought some silicone. Shapes that I thought would work as pencil grips and I did something to make them sturdy (if you're interested I went with pink slotted curler foam! The hooks were nice and sturdy and also prevented them from being centered in the resin.) I also ordered some glass dip tips and used the same technique to make custom dip sticks. In any case, no, this stuff doesn't smell very nice, but it's a fairly light odor and if you turn on the fan in a well-ventilated area, it shouldn't be a problem. It smells no worse than in a normal nail salon where UV varnish is used. A little bit runny. Especially if, like me, you're modifying silicone molds to put bits in and through them. You want to cut the hole as small as possible, slide your object, in my case my hook or pen tip, through it and immediately seal it with some clear resin so it doesn't move or leak later. If you're quick, you'll eventually learn how to quickly place an item under the lamp, and patching any holes you intentionally created will be an easy task. By the way, about the UV lamp. MAKE SURE IT IS 36W. Make sure you use some kind of timer! It dries PERFECTLY WELL if you use the right lamp and cure for at least 4 minutes. It can't heal at all if you go too high or too low. IMPORTANT: STUDY, BUY TWICE ONCE! :) Revain has many UV bulbs to choose from, but you have to be careful: even if you include 36W in your search, you'll see other power levels in your results. As you can see from the hook F (pink/magenta) pictured, if no glitter, objects or colors are added, it becomes crystal clear. (Just to clarify, I knew I couldn't avoid bubbles with this shape and by rotating the hook in the shape to round it out the way I wanted it. I can usually use the shape to remove the bubbles if possible , and I would - it's not a resin problem!) My G hook (light green thick rounded handle) shows that it dries excellently for thicker pieces if you follow directions and do it in layers or take longer to dry. I had to do both. It mixes well with glitter, mica pigments (I use Techarooz) and the gel dye that this brand sells to create some really cute, transparent pastels like on trend pinks, blues and lavenders. shaker toy The pin next to the pink hook I is an example of just two tiny drops of purple limino gel pigment. Overall I like this product. It's quick and easy to use. The directions are pretty clear. I have already ordered and used more to complete my hook set. I also bought and used a brand from Michael's that I didn't really like and no one could tell me how many watts my lamp should be for it. In any case, Limino will be my goal.

Pros
  • MULTIPURPOSE - Transparent UV Glue can be used for jewelry making, decoration, casting and coating, figure casting and resin painting, etc. It can also be mixed with mica powder, colorants and glitter for a colorful finish.
Cons
  • Not bad but...
