Real excitement! I heard about the Stellar X2 in September and it was said to be every bit as good as the Neumann U87 and at a fraction of the cost! I never had the money to buy a U87 (which costs over $3,000), so I always went with what I could afford. But when I finally got my Stellar X2 in the mail (the shock mount and pop filters in my video/photo are the ones I already had, not the ones that came with the kit) I was blown away! It sounds phenomenal. I've been a big supporter of MXL mics for years (and still support them, they make excellent products) and when I compared it to my V67G (great budget mic) I found similarities, but the Stellar X2 definitely won . with an overall sonority, and the biggest difference was the low noise level. It was very noticeable how much louder the MXL was compared to the Stellar X2 when listening to its own high gain noise. This is a HUGE plus for voice-over performances that require moments of quiet dialogue. It's so exciting that finally such a high quality, great value microphone is available that is good enough to compete with the Neumann U87! I can't recommend it enough! This is the mic I've been waiting for my whole life! Whether you're recording voiceovers, vocals for music, acoustic instruments, or anything else that requires a large-diaphragm condenser mic, do yourself a favor and get a Stellar X2!
