Based on other reviews I've read that it's safe to wash and still holds its shape. I washed this duvet when it arrived to get rid of the chemical smell before putting it in the duvet cover and on the vacation rental bed. However, when it came out, there were many "cells" in the ceiling that were bunching up and distorting the shape and lines of the ceiling. I've tried it in a bedspread and on a bed and it looks so lumpy and shapeless that it's totally unsuitable for my purposes. Attempts to "stretch" the clumps and flatten the cells were unsuccessful. waste of money for me. I would return it if possible but I doubt it could be after washing. Buyers be careful: when you buy, DO NOT wash it!
