I sized up to get the baggy look of the picture, and well, it sort of worked. They were certainly wide! However, they are very short through the inseam, so even with the straps extended to their fullest, they were a way too cozy with my crotch. Seriously uncomfortable and embarrassing fit. They were already huge horizontally, so sizing up again would have been silly. It's sad because these are cute and well-made. But I'd say if you are 5'5 or above, you will probably be revealing more intimate information than you intend to if you wear them out.
