I bought this DSi for my niece to replace the one my mum bought her in 2009. Although I bought a used console it works great and I think it's a testament to the console's longevity. While the technology may be a bit dated by today's standards, it still has some great tech (other than the ability to play games) that my niece, now 17, still uses to some extent. - The camera and the "distortion" effects it's capable of are still entertaining. When she first received the gift in 2009, she/we had a lot of fun making crazy pictures with different effects. We've found that it's still fun to play around with, even though it's been surpassed in terms of technology by many apps now (2016) available for smartphones and tablets. Otherwise it's still fun and functional, and photos can be stored either on the device or on an SD card, which isn't included but can hold any SD card up to 32GB. The internet can also be used as a last resort, but times have changed a lot. and she prefers her laptop and smartphone for internet purposes. Overall I am very happy with my purchase as is my niece. She's still able to play her large collection of games without buying a 3DS, giving her travel sickness, and hasn't shown any interest in the Nintendo 2DS. She loves this one as much as her original and that made the biggest difference for me. Proven durability based on the lifespan of their original DSi is the icing on the cake. This console eventually became one of the "classic games" of her childhood, as did the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) console for me and her father.
