I have been buying and using motion sensors for over 8 years. First battery operated, then some solar for outside. It's hard to find sunlight that isn't junk and I bought so many AA batteries to power my old Mr motion sensors. Bar. I keep Costco in business. Was looking for a light for our stairs and found this one. The lights have a built-in magnet, but also mounting stickers with a flat metal plate. So you just remove the cover from the sticky side, hold it for 30 seconds and the light stays on the metal mount. I mounted them on the underside of my wooden railing and they hold the light with no problem. I even had to peel and reposition one of them, and there's not a lot of sticky stuff that can't be removed cleanly, but enough sticky stuff that allowed me to install them a second time, even on wood, and it held very good. My lights are downward facing and when you walk down the stairs the motion detector easily detects movement. For me, the big change is the fact that they charge via a mini USB port, so no more wasting batteries. to me! I highly recommend.
