I have this in a 6U rack and it works great. Very happy with this purchase! I was able to thread it through the top from one side and back down the other side. This way I can see what I'm doing when I plug/unplug my hardware. The controls seem too simple, only three buttons, but you have a lot of options. The top button sets one of 23 blink/pulse/strobe modes. where the lights flicker or gradually glow. Some will pulse or flash in one color, others will be multicolored and pulse from one color to the next, and still others will be like static television with many colors flashing. The middle button lets you decide how fast everything pulses/changes. The bottom button sets the display to only one color. There are 20 shades to choose from, mainly blue, green and purple. There is only one red setting (maybe 3 pinks?). There's a yellow setting, but it's a bit greenish. There's a white light option, but you can opt for one of the lighter shades of blue if that's not what you're looking for. The center button then becomes the brightness slider and you can toggle between 9 different levels of brightness. I used ViLSOM LED strip clips to attach them to the inside of my rack. I didn't use the glue that comes with the LED strip itself, so I can't comment on how well that works.
