Great idea but difficult for young children

I thought this would be a great introduction to beadwork for my 3 year olds but they quickly became disillusioned. It was too difficult for her to slip the cord through the large beads and grab them from the other side in a coordinated manner. The beads are also quite massive and heavy. They're definitely big enough that I don't have to worry about them choking. They lost interest very quickly. I ended up giving them smaller beads and trumpet brushes and they had more success with them. However, they are well made and very cleverly designed and I plan to use them when my kids are older and in my kindergarten class for the math center. I feel there are many learning opportunities here, but they were too difficult for small children. The tray they come in is really nice but note that it doesn't have a lid. So unless you have shelf space to lay it flat, it's actually pretty much useless. for long-term storage and is therefore waste.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Clarity
