For those of you who are unsure whether you need an A/D converter or a D/A converter, this does both. Most of the boxes are not there. I ordered this because my TV doesn't have an optical port and my new surround sound only uses optical. It worked great right out of the box and was also reversible if you have an old surround set and a new TV (you'll need an optical cable in that case). It is very easy to set up and comes with a coaxial cable. Too bad I didn't pay attention to this because I ordered another coaxial cable and didn't need it. I do not know, if there is a sonic difference using the box, but I doubt it. Surround sound works and sounds great,
