When they first showed up I wasn't impressed. The wood has a white base color without the interesting textures and color variations seen in the photos. Luckily five or six coats of mineral oil later and they're just as nice. Note that the small pieces of wood around the edge have not been carved as carefully, and while some fit as well as the pictures, others certainly don't. With that in mind, not all parts are cut to the same thickness, so I wouldn't put anything on top that might tip over. However, they are suitable for large pots.
