All of these adapters require the power cord to be plugged into the adapter's power jack as the iPad doesn't seem to have the capability or capacity to output video by itself. Once you know and agree that you will not have two cables - one to your TV/monitor via an HDMI cable and a power cord - then you are done. This is required for ALL these adapters, not just this brand etc. It's an iPad thing. IIRC, the description in the ad for this device says so, but sometimes people don't read it fully (or at all) and may miss this tidbit of important information. If I can help someone by pointing it out here, I hope to do so. However, this adapter works quite well.
