Review on SIMREX Quadcopter Foldable Altitude Headless by Melissa Welter

Saved me over $100 on ditch cleaning!

This little inexpensive drone flew about 7-10 meters in the air and sent me a streaming video showing that there were relatively few leaves in the gutter, eliminating the need to gutters to be cleaned soon. It's "worth it" for that alone, but it's also a lot of fun and joy to use. I've never flown a drone so I can't comment on how it compares to more expensive drones. It's definitely difficult to control, but it may be down to operator (me) inexperience. The hardest part is understanding that the tilt controls are "backward" compared to what you would expect BUT when the drone rotates these tilt controls are no longer "backward". So I think I should always know the orientation of the front of the drone. I've gotten stuck in the top of a bush, crashed into walls, landed hard, got grass stuck in the stalks and it still works great. .It comes with extra propeller blades, although I haven't had to use them yet. It feels incredibly durable despite looking a bit small and flimsy. (Maybe I just got lucky.) I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun gadget that might even have a use (checking gutters, inspecting roof, chimney, etc.). I warn you it's difficult to get a stable picture, probably due to my inability to control the device, but if you have a live feed of the recorded video you can then scroll to a specific frame of interest (see attached screenshot ). I would not recommend this drone to children as I have trouble controlling it myself, but use your judgment there. And (although I definitely ignored the advice I'm about to give) I wouldn't fly around trees, bushes, power lines, houses, or anything it might crash into. Take your time and try to at least keep it stable at first. As for the video, it looks ok - definitely better than I expected given the low price. As for the battery, I only used it for about 10 minutes. and-turns off and the battery still seems fine. I'm not sure how long it usually has to run. There is a battery charging cable that plugs into the drone and a remote control. The video is streamed over Wi-Fi (the drone has a Wi-Fi transmitter that shows up as a hotspot that you have to manually connect to) and seems to have a decent range as I'm about 25-30 feet into the Air could come, no loss of signal as far as I could tell.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Drives me crazy
