Fits, does NOT work

First of all, I don't write many reviews. I'm just a buyer not affiliated with any company or organization. I feel like so many reviews are false and misleading. I've never thought much about tap water because the city's official water reports sound like the water is safe, and I'm sure it is. So, I have an old Kenmore refrigerator. - "Cold Spotโ€ model. This water filter seems to fit well. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I've never given much thought to tap water as the city's official water reports sound like the water is safe - and I'm pretty sure it matches the official "government" approved levels - whatever those may be . So I bought this filter to see and taste the difference. I also bought a water PPM tester https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073713G5F/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (It says "Very good reviewed Revains selection"). So here is my first test. The results, some really shocked me. Costco bottled water (Kirkland brand) PPM=23Phoenix tap water - PPM=498 fridge water AFTER over 4 gallons of water was flushed through this new filter, but installed on the same day as the test. PPM = 476 I haven't tried it yet so I can't confirm the taste of the water, only the readings from the PPM tester. All water tested was room temperature, I tested each water immediately after opening or pouring and also filled 3 separate bowls with each respective water and left for 2 hours to eliminate temperature differences, same results for each of the waters. I can also confirm that my water filter packaging lists NSF 42, 51 and 401 (I think those numbers are correct). So my review so far is a waste of money. I will update this review in about 2 weeks after the filter actually works. I also emptied my ice bucket so all the ice was filtered through the filter. I plan on melting some ice in a bowl and testing this water as that is probably the main reason I bought this filter. We live in Phoenix and use ice cream all day, every day. Hope this review helps. I highly recommend the water PPM tester mentioned above, it's not expensive and gives good, accurate (as far as I can tell) readings. If you care enough about water filters, a good tester should help you figure out what you're paying for. Updated: 05/14/2018. I am changing my rating to 1 star. I ran over 30 gallons (using 5 gallon water bottles) through the filter using my tester on each bottle. The results are slightly improved compared to tap water. Tap water is still 498 ppm. The filtered water is now 462 ppm. So I read the technical specifications of the filter, its certification level and its filtration. I still had questions so I spent the last 3 hours on my phone with EveryDrop by Whirlpool. I was transferred to 5 different people because they are all just salespeople. I asked to speak to someone dealing with production, product quality, etc. There is no one I can leave a message or anything. They don't have anyone the consumer can talk to who can ask any questions other than what's on the box. I asked what the actual ppm reduction performance of the filter is - they don't know. I asked when the filter design was last tested by the NSF for certification - they don't know. I asked for material to show its testing status for NSF certification, they don't have it. I think the filter is not certified or even tested. They could not provide proof that their filters were certified. They also only referenced their own internal documentation to show their performance. So after spending nearly $50 on this filter I see a very small drop in ppm (parts per million) and even the company can't answer any questions other than typical sales questions. . Ask them for more details, they will be lost. Strongly disappointed. I'm sticking with the $10 filters, at least the ones I have very low expectations for.
