Review on MSI Optix MAG274QRF Gaming Monitor: Adjustable, 2560X1440, 165Hz, High Dynamic Range by Bruce Ballard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best first monitor!

For starters, I've spent months comparing all the different monitors (in-depth and in-depth reviews and tests) on the market that fall within the 27-inch 1440p average refresh rate range and this is the monitor I've come back to am and again and again. This monitor is perfect and the only thing I think it lacks is official HDR certification, but I'm not overly concerned with HDR anyway. In addition to the main features, the phenomenal response time was particularly important to me. The quality of the color is amazing and while it may seem oversaturated I find that it makes the color very pretty and it's not too bad it makes people look burnt or orange. The contrast ratio is pretty good for an IPS. the screen too. My model had no imperfections like dead pixels or defects. There's a little backlight bleeding, but it's not serious and you hardly notice it unless you're looking at a black screen. The color is wrong the box was pretty good. The gamma didn't seem right, but going into the Nvidia control panel and tweaking it made it easy. After making some tweaks to the color in the OSD, it looks great even without using a colorimeter to calibrate. There is also a Srgb mode that mutes the color. Thought I'd use it but thought the extra brightness from an uncapped 131% srgb coverage looked better. I could probably say a lot more, but all I can say is this monitor is a dream come true and I am extremely happy with it. If you're looking for a 27-inch, 1440p, 165Hz monitor with amazing color accuracy, this is the monitor for you.
